About Us

Cotton & Washi was born from a chapter of my life spent living in Tokyo.

For three years, Japan changed the way I saw everyday life. I discovered a culture where beauty is found in the smallest details, where objects are chosen with intention, traditions are woven into modern living, and caring for what you own is simply part of everyday life. When I returned to the UK, I wanted to bring a little of that feeling home.

The name Cotton & Washi reflects that philosophy.

Cotton represents the everyday. Soft, practical and made to be used again and again. It inspired our reusable furoshiki gift wraps and our belief that sustainable choices should feel effortless rather than complicated.

Washi, Japan’s traditional paper, represents craftsmanship, creativity and thoughtful design. It reminds us that even the simplest materials can become something beautiful when made with care.

Together, Cotton & Washi is a celebration of modern Japanese living, where sustainability and beauty exist side by side.

Today, Cotton & Washi is evolving beyond gift wrapping into a modern Tokyo concept store. Alongside carefully curated stationery, homeware, ceramics and lifestyle pieces, we’re creating experiences that invite people to slow down, make with their hands and discover Japanese traditions in a welcoming, contemporary way.

Whether you’re wrapping a gift, choosing a handcrafted object or joining one of our experiences, my hope is that you leave with more than just a product. I hope you discover a story, a ritual or a small moment of joy that becomes part of your own everyday life.

Thank you for being part of the journey.

With love, Saya
